Fieldwork in Umiujaq, Nunavik, Quebec, Canada

This fieldwork campaign aimed to support ULaval researches on permafrost dynamics, groundwater–surface water interactions, and geological hazards in the northern region of Quebec. Conducted in collaboration with various research groups, the project focused on updating and refining key environmental datasets to improve understanding of hydrogeological and geocryological conditions. The main tasks included:

  • Conducting LiDAR scanning to obtain high-resolution topographic data for analyzing landscape evolution and permafrost changes

  • Performing hydraulic conductivity tests to evaluate soil permeability and water movement characteristics

  • Deploying seepage meters to assess exchange processes between groundwater and surface water systems

  • Carrying out geochemical water sampling to analyze water quality and assess ecological impacts

  • Participating in landslide investigations to evaluate slope stability and identify geological hazards in the region

2020-2021

COLLABORATION IN A RESEARCH PROJECT

(IRANIAN ENVIRONMENT ORGANIZATION AND UNIVERSITY OF TEHRAN)

Preparation of quality protection program for Lar, Chalous, Sardabrood, and Tajan protected rivers, Iran.

The purpose of this program was to review the studies and measures carried out at the international, national, and provincial levels concerning the quantitative and qualitative protection of the mentioned protected rivers. Then, by reviewing the records of rivers, analyzing the minimum flow, preparing a database, the land use of the river fringe, pollution, contamination, and destructive sources affecting the water quality of protected rivers are identified.
moreover, the report of a comprehensive monitoring plan, prevention strategies, and a quality protection plan for these rivers has been developed.
Furthermore, in this project, in order to simulate the quality of the river, the QUAL2Kw model has been used, and according to the specifications and advantages of this one-dimensional model, it has been used to study the quality conditions of the mentioned protected rivers.
